Starting on the first weekend in September, we will spend most of the next nine months in the book of Acts for our weekend messages. Acts starts with these words, written by Luke:
In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven…
Did you catch it? Luke’s first book (The Gospel of Luke) was about what Jesus began to do and teach. Luke’s second book (Acts) is about what Jesus continues to do and teach, since his resurrection.
Acts is about how normal people, who became followers of Jesus, were caught up in God’s speaking, acting, stepping into the world with his gospel and his life. Here we see the gift of the Spirit. Wow. Here we see the birth of the church. Here we meet the first martyrs. Here we see the mission to the world. Here is the sound of Good News! Here we see God changing lives. Here we see power and Life and his mercy poured out. It is high adventure, and the door is open for you and me to step right in. Buckle your seat belts!
And welcome to the God who Acts! |
